This page is for anyone avoiding peanuts or tree nuts, including families seeking a nut-free bar for school. It lists protein bars that their makers call nut-free, in the maker’s own words, on the maker’s own product page, with the nutrition label of one named flavor verified in our database.
A bar that looks nut-free from its ingredient list does not qualify. We do not decide what a bar is. The maker’s words do, and we quote them exactly, with where they sit, the URL and the date we read them.

The list
We checked 24 of the 25 verified bars in our database, and one qualifies. Each entry quotes the maker’s statement and then the cross-contact line it states. Read both: a bar with no nuts in its recipe can still be made in a facility that also processes peanuts and tree nuts.

Why a Contains line is not enough
In the United States a food’s major allergens have to be declared, in the ingredient list or in a Contains line: milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans and sesame. That is the whole allergen declaration. A label that declares no peanuts or tree nuts is not a nut-free statement. Many bars in our set that declare no nuts as ingredients carry a cross-contact line naming peanuts or tree nuts. Cross-contact lines (“may contain”, “made in a facility that also processes”) are voluntary in the US, so a label without one does not tell you whether the bar is made on shared-ingredient equipment or in a shared-ingredient facility. For a nut allergy, the cross-contact line on the pack in your hand is the line to read.
How we chose
The rule: a bar is listed only when (1) its nutrition panel for one named flavor is verified in our database, with a last verified date; (2) the maker states that the bar is nut-free in its own words on its own product page, and we hold the words verbatim with where they sit, the URL and the date we read them; and (3) nothing the maker says on that page contradicts the statement, such as a Contains line or an ingredient naming peanuts or a tree nut.
Words count when they are the maker’s own on its product page, including the words on a badge, an icon or a label image there. A product name does not count, and neither does a hidden tag in the page’s data.
We read the product pages of 24 of the 25 verified bars in our database on Oct 24, 2026. Their labels were verified between Sep 22, 2026 and Oct 23, 2026. A statement covers only what it says: when it sits on one flavor’s page and is about that flavor, the entry’s heading names the flavor, and the line’s other flavors are not covered. Testing status for each bar, with the date we checked the registry, is on its listing page.
Not on this page yet: Gatorade Recover Protein Bars, CLIF BUILDERS Protein Bar and Lenny & Larry’s Cookie-fied Bar, which we have not published yet, and MET-Rx Big 100, verified but not part of this read. Protein powders are outside this bar list.
Frequently asked
Is peanut-free the same as nut-free? No. Peanuts are legumes and tree nuts are a separate allergen group. We quote which one the maker names.
Does a nut-free statement cover allergens it may contact in a facility? Not necessarily. A statement covers what its words say, and we quote the words. Read the statement, then the facility line under each bar, which says what else is made in the same place. Whether a bar suits a nut allergy is a question for you and your doctor.
Is coconut a tree nut? The answer has changed over time in FDA guidance. We report what the maker states and do not decide it.
